Chris Erickson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by The Cremation Society of Iowa - Des Moines on Mar. 13, 2026.
1959 –2025

Chris A. Erickson, 65, of Johnston, Iowa, passed away unexpectedly at home on April 30, 2025, after a brief illness.

Born to Lloyd and Helen (Freeburg) Erickson, Chris was a proud lifelong resident of the Johnston community. He was a true "lifer," having attended Johnston Community School District from kindergarten through 12th grade.

Chris followed his passion for motorcycles to Daytona, Florida, where he graduated at the top of his class from motorcycle mechanics school. He loved racing-especially tearing up the track with his beloved #215. If it had a motor, Chris could drive it, fix it, or make it go faster. Tinkering and "jimmy-rigging" just about anything were second nature to him.

Chris married Deb Christofferson in 1994. Together they raised two sons, Cody and Jared, of whom he was immensely proud. Whether it was riding, wrenching, or just relaxing, Chris loved nothing more than spending time in his shed-his personal haven of tools, masterpieces, memories, and stories.

Chris had a larger-than-life personality and a gift for making people laugh. He was known for his over-the-top sarcasm, unforgettable one-liners, goofy dance moves, and wildly expressive faces. His quick wit and warm humor left a lasting impression on everyone he met.

He is deeply missed by his wife, Deb; sons, Cody and Jared; sister, Kathy (Michelle); brother, Rod (Brenda); and a wide circle of nieces, nephews, in-laws, extended family, and dear friends. His absence leaves a hole in the hearts of many, but his laughter and stories will live on.

A Celebration of Life will be at the Johnston Lion's Club on Friday, May 9, 2025, from 5 to 8 p.m.
