Chris McCurdy, of Tulsa, Oklahoma, just 62 years old, died unexpectedly on April 21, 2022 from a heart condition. The family is deeply saddened by her sudden death. She was born and raised in the MidWest, and lived in the Tulsa area most of her life.
Chris owned her own business that developed educational curriculum for early elementary students. Her passion for education stems from her childhood. When she was a child, she struggled for many years with reading. She tells of a teacher who finally noticed her struggle, and then took a special interest in helping her learn phonics and catch up in reading. As a mother, she dedicated herself to her children's education. After her divorce, she became passionate about creating fun and engaging ways to help kids learn phonics, reading and writing skills with Montessori methods.
One of Chris's greatest strengths was her empathy for others; she had a gift of making others feel seen, heard, understood, and loved. She cared deeply about encouraging other people with spoken words, written messages, and quality time together. Because of her caring heart, she loved being helpful, even to the point of putting others' needs above herself. Chris loved and cherished her kids and grandkids, above all else. She was extremely dedicated to making sure we all felt loved, valued and accepted.
Chris loved being in nature and going on walks or hikes with her loved ones. She loved to explore the world through adventures, learning, experiencing new foods, cultures and ideas. Her favorite locations were the mountains in Estes Park and the ocean at Cocoa Beach. She had a deep love for animals, especially her current Maltese, Ziegler.
She is survived by her three children, Shane, Lori (Kyle) and Stacy (Ronald). She was "Gigi" to her 5 grandchildren, Max, Midori, Anna, Jude and Zoey. She was sister to her older brother Tim and his wife Kay. She was a loving aunt to Jenny, Jason, Erin, Shannon, Stephanie, Christian, Kyla, Collin, and Luna. She is survived by her partner, Joe. She is preceded in death by her mother Francis, her father Paul and her sister Becky.
Chris will be desperately missed by all those that she's left behind. Our hearts are so broken by this unexpected loss. She was one of a kind and to be loved by her was to be truly blessed.
