Christine Faye Ferns

Christine Ferns, 63, of New Sharon, IA, and formerly of Oskaloosa, passed away on Thursday, August 21, 2025, at her home in New Sharon, IA. Christine Faye Ferns, daughter of Laverne Youngbear and Jeanetta Poe, was born October 13, 1961, in Iowa City, Iowa. Chris grew up in Oskaloosa, being raised by her mother, Jeanetta. She attended Oskaloosa Community Schools. She later met Dale Ferns, and they were married on August 29, 1988, in Oskaloosa. To this union, two children were born, Amber and Raymond. Chris and Dale lived in Oskaloosa, where they raised their family. She was so proud of her family and her town. She loved doing all things Oskaloosa, from Friday after Five and Sweet Corn Serenades, to playing bingo at the Eagles every Tuesday. Chris could often be found enjoying Oskaloosa activities. Chris was also a proud member of the Meskwaki Tribe. One of her favorite activities throughout the year was attending the yearly powwow in Tama, Iowa. Her most cherished memories were those made with her family. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. Chris's family includes her children, Amber Ferns of New Sharon, Ray Ferns of Oskaloosa, and Crystal Brockway of North Carolina, her grandchildren, Adrian, Uriah, Oaklyn, Griffin and Arrow, her siblings; Jerry "Charby" (Grace) Charbonneau, Charlie ( Kendra) Charbonneau, Edie (Doc Visser) McCann, Wendy Yeo and Junior (Cassie) Yeo and many nieces and nephews. Chris was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Dale, a sister, Sherry Charbonneau, and a brother, Terry Charbonneau. As was her wish, her body has been cremated, and a celebration of life will occur at a later date.
