Fitzpatrick, Christine M.
BALLSTON SPA - It is with deep sadness that her family and friends announce the passing of Christine Mary Fitzpatrick, on Monday, November 24, 2025, beloved wife of the late David L. Maynard, sister, aunt, and friend.
Born on April 21, 1950, in Manhattan, N.Y., to Mary (Morley) Fitzpatrick and Edward J. Fitzpatrick, Christine grew up in Queens with her five siblings, Mary G. Fitzpatrick (deceased), Joan M Marren, John C. Fitzpatrick, Edward J. Fitzpatrick Jr., and Peter G. Fitzpatrick. Christine was fortunate during her childhood to also frequently interact with her much loved aunts and uncles and her 48 first cousins (many of whom she stayed in contact with) who regularly assembled at their Irish immigrant grandparent's home for Christmas, Easter and many other happy and sad occasions. Christine graduated from St. Joseph's grammar school in Astoria, Queens, and became a proud alumna of Saint Helena High School in the Bronx. She went on to earn her bachelor's degree in history from St. John's University, later beginning a master's degree at George Washington University and completing it at Brooklyn College, City University of New York.
Christine dedicated her life to public service and education. A true Renaissance woman, she had a diverse career, serving as an elementary school teacher, a valued public servant at the Department of Health, Education and Welfare in Washington D.C., and vice president of employee benefits at Macy's, Inc. Her passion for advocacy led her to the Governor's Office of Employee Relations, where she negotiated health benefit contracts on behalf of New York State employees. Christine's final professional role was as the executive director of the New York State Adult Day Health Care Council (Leading Age New York), where she tirelessly served her community of member agencies.
Christine loved people particularly those in Ballston Spa, where she has lived since 1981. She was a trailblazer in her community first serving as a Village trustee and then becoming the first female mayor of Ballston Spa. She was an exemplary leader whose legacy will resonate for generations.
During her time as mayor, Christine's unwavering commitment to her community was clear. She collaborated with fellow leaders to implement improved policies and procedures, manage the village's finances to achieve a remarkable turnaround from a $300,000 deficit to a $4.8 million fund balance, and drive substantial investments in essential services. Her passion for accessibility and citizen involvement resulted in the successful development of master plans and grant funding that set a course for a vibrant and inclusive Ballston Spa.
Beyond her public service, Christine was a warm-hearted individual, known for her courage and resiliency. An insatiable reader, she enjoyed family gatherings, tandem biking, travel, and the arts. Her adventurous spirit enriched her life and the lives of those around her.
Always the communicator, she maintained an impressive memory for details, and her cards expressing love and support touched many hearts.
She is survived by her loving siblings as well as beloved nieces and nephews. Her cherished partner, Richard Dautner; and her sister-in-law, Julia King Maynard, remain close to her heart, along with many long-time friends and confidants. Christine Fitzpatrick's legacy as a steadfast advocate for community involvement and her enduring spirit will be remembered fondly by all who knew her. She was a beacon of love, support, and inspiration, and she will be dearly missed.
In celebration of Christine's life, her memory will live on through the stories and relationships she cultivated throughout her journey. Her family invites all those who cherished her to share their memories and honor the wonderful person she was.
