Christine A. Gerding

Christine A. Gerding, of Springfield, died at 1:10 am on Wednesday, October 26, 2011 at Heritage Manor. She was born May 28, 1940 in Morris, IL the daughter of Clifford and Sophie Such Fosen. She married Henry P. Gerding on January 30, 1960 and he survives. She is also survived by four children; Julie (Scott) Leavey, Lori (Mark) Venegonia, Eric (Angela) Gerding and Jennifer Gerding all of Springfield; eight grandchildren, Scott Leavey II, Danielle, Jacob, Vincent and Benjamin Venegonia, Luke, Eric Jr., and Grace Gerding; one brother Michael (Debra) Fosen of Somonauk, IL; brother-in-law John Gerding of Springfield and sister-in-law Martha (James) Mayfield of Springfield and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was a member of Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. She volunteered at the Ronald McDonald House and enjoyed birds, gardening, crossword puzzles and spending time with her family. Christine was a resident of Springfield since 1960, and had retired from District 186 and previously worked for Kroger. Christine was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Sandra Vorek. Visitation: 9 –11:30 a.m. Saturday, October 29, 2011 at Staab Funeral Home. Funeral: 11:30 a.m., Saturday, October 29, 2011 at Staab Funeral Home with Monsignor John Ossola officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Alzheimer's Association, 2921 Greenbriar Drive Ste.
