Christine “Chris” King Wilson, 63, passed away peacefully on September 20, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on March 19, 1962, in Portsmouth, VA, the daughter of the late Jack and Barbara King. Chris dedicated her life to creating a warm sense of belonging in her home, her preschool classroom, and to all those she met.
Chris spent over 25 years as a preschool teacher at Smithfield Baptist Preschool, where she was universally beloved by staff and the countless children who knew when they stepped in Mrs. Wilson’s room they would be loved. Her greatest joy, however, came from spending time with her family. Whether it was attending her boys’ ball games, tanning on the beach, listening to her husband play music, or having her grandchildren over for sleepovers, Chris was truly happiest being around her loved ones.
Chris is survived by her husband of 42 years, Tony; sons, Brandon (Chrissie) and Mat (Lauren); grandchildren, Addie, Jax, and Braxton; brother, Michael King (Lorri); sisters, Susan Kennedy (Steve) and Lynn Wilkes; sister-in-law, Tina Veditz (Rick); brother-in-law, Tommy Wilson (Tonya); and numerous nieces and nephews. A celebration of Chris’s life will be held on, Thursday, September 25, 2025, 3 p.m. at Smithfield Baptist Church. The family will receive friends following the services at a reception in the Family Life Center. The family would like to thank all the care givers for their love and support. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that donations be made to the American Cancer Society, c/o Pam Jordan, 18214 Farmview Lane, Windsor, VA 23487.
