Sincere, earnest, and a fierce advocate for his authors and their books. Better-read than almost anyone, it seemed. And warm and funny and loyal. How lucky we were to have had him.

Chris will be dearly missed. I wrote for him at the WSJ, and he made a point of meeting with me personally when I was in NY. His boyish enthusiasm and kindness made him seem younger than his years. He did much good and leaves much good behind. He was a rare breed and his loss is inestimable.
