Christopher Wilfred Carey "Chris" was born on November 27, 1956 in
Dayton, Ohio and passed away on November 30, 2025 in
Alameda, California.
Chris was a long time Alameda resident. When he was a young boy, he moved from Dayton to Alameda by train and stayed there for the remainder of his life. He was a proud Alamedan and quite a historian.
He is survived by his beloved mother, Diane Johnson, his best friend, Joseph "Joe" Siem, his sisters, Judith "Judy" Harbour, Dawn Perata, Heidi Rossovich, Margaret "Susie" Duprez and many loving cousins, nieces and nephews. He was a devoted son, loyal friend and the best brother!
Chris was an avid electronics enthusiast. He could take apart and fi x anything! It had been his passion since childhood. He worked for many years at Telestar Electronics in Oakland. He was also known for working nights at the old Bonfaire Market on High Street in Alameda and was recognized at bay area flea markets throughout the years.
Mostly, Chris was well known at Alameda Repair Shop for being hard working and caring. He was well respected in the Alameda community. Customers would go to the shop to hear his wisdom and to get a good laugh with his unlimited jokes. It all began when Chris was renting the unit next door for his own business, US Citizen Sales. Joe was in need of some assistance in his shop and suggested that Chris could help out. Chris embraced the idea, the customers, and the business right away. He essentially became the shop mascot although some people thought he was the owner as he ran the place with such pride and efficiency. Joe had Chris move his shop into Alameda Repair and they combined their businesses. Chris went from being a tenant to becoming a business partner. Chris and Joe also developed a deep friendship and one of a father/son relationship. In fact, some customers would visit and ask Joe, "where's your dad?" Joe would just point to where Chris was, without further explanation. Their arrangement lasted 24 years! Our family thanks Joe for his dedication to Chris and for his irreplaceable friendship to us all.
We all know Chris enjoyed a strong cup of coffee anytime of day. He liked to cook in his air fryer and often shared his creations online. He had a great appreciation for food. One of his favorite treats was a hot dog from The Pampered Pup. His order there was affectionately dubbed "The Chris Dog".
Anyone who knew Chris, knew he was a lifelong dog lover. He raised and loved many dogs throughout the years and you probably even saw them at the shop if you visited. Chris has now joined Red, Kid, Jack, Lola, Minnie, and Jazzy. They are surely running and playing together in the afterlife.
We miss Chris dearly. He was loyal, kind-hearted, intelligent and extremely humorous. The family will hold a private memorial. Please make any donations in his honor to FAAS (Friends of the Alameda Animal Shelter).
May he rest in peace.
