Butch Critchfield, of Waterford, passed away on September 12, 2025, at 58 years of age. He was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana, to his loving parents William G. and Nancy J. Critchfield (née Meschberger). Butch graduated from New Haven High School in 1985. He went on to build a full and joyful life grounded in love, laughter, and unforgettable moments. In 1996, Butch met the love of his life, Tamara Miles. That same year, they shared their first vacation together in Myrtle Beach-an unforgettable trip that marked the first time either of them had seen the ocean. Two years later, they were married on October 24, 1998, beginning a beautiful journey together that spanned 27 years. They later welcomed their beloved daughter, Kira Nicole Critchfield, who was the light of Butch's life. Butch worked in shipping and receiving for Over 30 years until his retirement. He was known for his strong work ethic and easygoing nature. In his younger years, Butch loved country dancing and was especially talented at the Gillie, a move he executed with smooth precision. He also had a great love for the ocean-especially sharks-and Halloween was his absolute favorite holiday. His laugh was distinct and unmistakable; once you heard it, you'd never forget it, and everyone who knew him could recognize it instantly. Butch was an avid fan of Marvel movies-especially Batman-and his Saturday night ritual was preparing his Pepsi just in time for the 8 PM Svengoolie show. He looked forward to trips to the Renaissance Festival every year, where he'd happily enjoy a giant turkey leg and take in the sights and sounds of the past. A lover of animals, Butch had a special bond with his pets. His dog Cricket and cats Tutu and Fudge were never far from his side-especially Fudge, who was so attached to him that the family often joked about needing to file a restraining order on the overly affectionate cat. Butch enjoyed the simple pleasures in life: bonfires, camping, fishing, and capturing life through photography. His eye for beauty and ability to freeze a perfect moment made him a talented photographer and a keeper of memories. He leaves behind his devoted wife of 27 years, Tamara Critchfield; his cherished daughter, Kira Nicole Critchfield; his loving mother, Nancy J. Critchfield; his "stand-in spouse" and Sister in Law, Christel Miles; and his nieces and nephews: Ryan Dennis, Amanda Langston(Austin) Mann, and Josh Langston (Dajana) Langston And Nathan Freed. He is also survived by his brother-in-law Bill Dennis and his sister Renee Freed. He is preceded in death by his father William G. Critchfield, his sister Karen Langston, and his beloved "stalker cat" Fudge. Butch will be remembered for his warmth, humor, love of life, and the joy he brought to everyone around him. His laugh, his love, and his legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
