Dr. Christopher B. Geary of Quincy, 52, passed away unexpectedly at home on February 4th, 2024. He was the loving husband of Leigh Lucas Geary, devoted Dad to Kellan Geary and loving stepdad to John Lucas. Chris was the beloved son of Steven B. Geary and Mary Ann Geary of NJ. He is survived by his brother Dan (wife Alison) of NJ, sister Shannon (husband Dan Mascenik) of CA, nieces Adrienne and Alexandra Geary and nephew Wesley Mascenik. He was a wonderful son-in-law to John and Diane Moriarty.
Chris was on the staff of Signature Healthcare in Brockton as an orthopedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine. He formerly was on the staff at Tufts Medical Center. He received his undergraduate degree from Harvard University, and attended medical school at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. He played rugby throughout his academic career, and went on to play semi-professional rugby with the Mystic River Rugby Club.
Chris was a sports enthusiast, with season tickets to the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots. His favorite thing to do was to take his family to those games as well as to Boston Bruins and Celtics games. He could often be seen at AMC theaters with the boys at every new release.especially Marvel movies. He was very active and could be found working out at Peter Welch Gym in South Boston several days a week.
He was an amazing advocate for his younger son, who is on the autism spectrum. Their magical bond will never be broken, not even in death.
Chris's wit, intelligence and loving personality will be missed by all who knew him.

Dr Geary repaired my torn rotator cuff in 2016 at Tufts. He was such a wonderful guy. I recently reinjured my arm and looked him up to see if he was still working in the area, and was absolutely shocked to see that he had passed away! Such a funny, vibrant person. My deepest condolences to his family and colleagues: please know that he made such a difference in so many lives.

I was one of Chris’s high school football coaches. He was bigger as a freshman than he was as a senior so he was a lineman - although he looked more like a marathon runner by then! Chris never asked to switch positions and never backed away from an opponent. He played where he felt his teammates needed him most.
His nickname was “Tex” because his family had lived in Texas for 1year!
He was at the same time the smartest and funniest player I ever coached, and although I was supposed to be the “tough” coach he always found a way to make me laugh
If a coach is lucky you get the opportunity to have someone like “Tex” as a player and the a friend. I have many wonderful memories of him and I consider myself blessed to have shared what he would say was a part of his life that he thoroughly enjoyed.
Rest in peace Chris - it was an honor and privilege to have shared the field with you.

So sorry to hear of Chris passing. I was fortunate enough to play rugby with him for a few years at Mystic River. He was the young kid just coming in from Harvard and probably 140 lbs soaking wet but he definitely threw himself into contact. A great guy, fully committed to everything he did without taking himself too seriously. Always fun and a good time when playing or hanging out with Chris. My sympathy to Leigh and the whole family. Taken way too young and will be missed by all.

I worked with Chris when we were undergrads at bar called The Bow and Arrow. He was kind, funny, hard working and it's not at all surprising he became a surgeon. I was shocked and saddened to hear the news. My condolences to his family and friends.

Chris was a classmate of mine at Greenhill School (Addison, TX) in 8th grade. Got to know him in a couple of classes we took together. Guy was absolutely hilarious and ferociously smart. Loved hanging with him, then he left (family relocation back East) and we lost touch. I was curious where he was and am saddened to find out about his passing here. He was a gift to anyone he befriended. Sincerest condolences to his family and friends.

Yesterday a patient of mine told me about Chris´s passing and I couldn´t believe it and immediately had to google it to make sure she was right. I didn´t know Chris that well, but we were colleagues at Tufts for over 15 years and he performed surgery on a number of my patients. I first met Chris when I was a 3rd year medical student on my surgery clerkship and he was either a 4th year Ortho resident or chief resident and I´ll always remember how hilarious he was. Definitely always lightened the mood when he was with "his peeps."

Chris told me don´t shave before a match. Use your rough beard and chin to attack opposing props in the scrum. Strangely, somehow never forgot that.

I had the pleasure of working with Dr. Geary. His passing has brought extreme sadness to our Orthopedic family. I keep thinking I´m gonna see him flying into the office in the morning (running late lol) with his backpack and big bag of food and drinks for the day. I will miss seeing him in his office with his feet up on the desk (in his pink sneakers) dictating his notes. Every Wednesday he would go to Whites Bakery and bring us back goodies after lunch. He was always sharing stories and showing us videos and pictures of Kellan you could see how much he loved his little boy. My heart goes out to his family. He will forever be missed RIP Dr. Geary

Chris was a sincere, hard-working, and witty person who I am glad I had the opportunity to know. As our hooker he kept my ears warm on many a cold morning, and as a leader he pushed me further than I could ever take myself alone. Godspeed, Chris.

I met Dr Geary last year as a patient. He was so kind and gentle. I remember he had a good sense of humor as I was scared to death. He put me at ease. He helped my husband a few times also. I´m shocked and saddened by this . God please bless him and his family and friends at this difficult time.

This is absolutely terrible news. I´m sure he wouldn´t remember me but I remember what a kind and hilarious person he was. I was a terrible B side rugby player but for a couple of our games he subbed in as prop and did everything he could make the newer players feel appreciated.

So sorry to hear of Dr. Geary´s passing. I was a patient of his years ago and he did my surgery after a bad bike crash. I told him during my consult visit about a big race that I had planned that I was worried about missing and he said "Don´t worry, I´ll get you there." and he did. I´ll always be thankful for that, my sincere condolences to his family.

I played Rugby at Harvard with Chris and was also a colleague at Tufts. He's a few years older and, when I was a freshman rugger, he nicknamed me "Swerski" after a character in the SNL "Bears Fans" skits. In the fall of Freshman year I played in my first A-side matches with him. When I scored my first A-side try he was the first to congratulate me... grabbing me and shouting "Swerski, you did it!" Makes me laugh 35 years later. I'm sorry for your loss.

I was a brand new PA when Chris was an intern. He was smart and hilarious. I used to love being on call with him. I remember a lot of frozen yogurt and Mountain Dew. We had lost touch over the years except for Facebook, where I loved seeing his pictures with Kellan. The last time I saw Chris I was just lucky to run into him. I asked how Kellan was. He said "awesome. He's my best friend."

You will be missed. May you rest in peace.
