BETTENDORF-February 8, 2020, our brother, husband and father went to be with his Savior, Jesus Christ. Christopher T. Gillespie was born December 1, 1952 in Ottumwa, Iowa to Charles A. and Patricia Dooley Gillespie. Per his wishes, cremation rites were accorded. A celebration of his life will be Sunday, February 23 from 1-3 p.m. at Luther Heights 3116 Devils Glen Road, Bettendorf, IA.

Chris grew up in Davenport, Iowa and later moved to Corydon, Iowa, where he attended high school. He worked various jobs throughout his life, mainly as a short order cook. He made a mean breakfast! He loved his family and was so proud of his daughter and his grandkids. He loved his wife, Edna, his "little scarecrow," and fishing, and although he would never admit it, Edna was the better fisherman. Chris never had much, but was a generous guy who would give you the shirt off his back, a survivor, stubborn as a mule, with a "never give up" attitude. He and Edna were married on January 7, 2008. He was a Cubs fan and a KC Chiefs fan and liked playing chess with his friend, Ralph, although he usually lost.

He is survived by his wife, Edna Gillespie and his daughter, Locadia Gillespie, Davenport, Iowa; 3 step children, Roberta Emery and Irma Wheeler, both of Knoxville, Iowa and Randall Emery, Centerville, Iowa and 6 siblings, Kim and Linda Gillespie, Davenport; Charles K. and Diana Gillespie, Exline, Iowa; Penny Sorenson, Kansas City, MO; Rick and Rhonda Gillespie, Davenport; Holli and Kenneth Long, Milan, IL and Phillip Gillespie, Kansas City; 7 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 nephews.
