Christopher Johnson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Holt Memorial Chapel - Harrison on Mar. 20, 2026.
Christopher Dale Johnson, 47, passed away Friday, March 20, 2026 at his home, surrounded by his loving family, following a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.

He was born February 3, 1979 in Springfield, Missouri, the son of Donald Dean and Carol Jean McCleary Johnson. Chris had a deep love for drag racing and anything associated with it. During the summer months, he enjoyed working on and racing his cars in Rogersville, Missouri, often alongside his close friends, Jason Lansdown and Eddie Horn, something he took great pride and joy in. Chris was known for his contagious laugh and the ability to brighten any room he entered, no matter the circumstance. He was a hard worker who never hesitated to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Above all, Chris loved his family, and the time he spent with them will be forever cherished. Becoming an uncle on June 18, 1992 was a special moment in his life, and his nephew Blake held a particularly special place in his heart. On April 5, 2025, Chris married the love of his life, Amanda Leann Edgmon Gibbins at Dogwood Chapel at Branson, Missouri. In July of 2025, Chris and Leann began attending Lone Beach Baptist Church, which Chris often said "felt like home." He loved his pastor and his church family deeply. Chris is preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Gene Johnson; and his maternal grandparents, Bobby and Shirley McCleary.

He is survived by his wife and soulmate, Leann Johnson; four sons, Devon (Maddie) Darlington of Springfield, Missouri, Ethan (Madison) Johnson of Clayton, North Carolina, and Lane and Chase Gibbins of the home; his father, Donald Dean Johnson of St. Louis, Missouri; his mother, Carol Jean Johnson of Mansfield, Missouri; two brothers, Robert Johnson of Mansfield, Missouri and Brian (Teresa) Johnson of Willard, Missouri; his paternal grandmother, Marjory Fay Johnson of Aurora, Missouri; and a host of other family members and friends who will miss him dearly.

Chris fought the good fight and has now finished his race.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 23, 2026 at Mossville Cemetery in Newton County with Bro. Bobby Young officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Holt Memorial Chapel.

Pallbearers are Chris' sons and his two best friends, Devon Darlington, Ethan Johnson, Lane Gibbins, Chase Gibbins, Jason Lansdown, and Eddie Horn.

Honorary pallbearers are Robert Johnson, Brian Johnson, Blake Johnson, Jason Davis, and Nick Brooke.
