FORESTVILLE: Christopher J. Matthies, 63, of Prospect Street, Forestville, passed away Friday, March 29th, 2024 at his residence. Chris was born in Buffalo on April 18, 1960, the son of Harlean J. (Gray) Matthies, of Sunset Bay and the late William E. Matthies, Jr. He was a graduate of Alden Central School, Class of 1978 and served in the National Guard for 6 years.
Chris worked as a Shipping & Receiving Clerk for the former Quebecor World, Inc. Depew, for a total of 30 years, starting with the former Arcadia Graphics and owned many apartments in the area.
He was a member of the J. Carter Knapp American Legion #953 of Forestville and the Sunset Drifters Snowmobile Club. Chris was a life member of the Amvets #6472 in Silver Creek and a passionate snowmobiler & boater, who loved spending time with his grandson.
Survivors include a daughter, Yvonne M. (Jeremy Taggert) Matthies, of Forestville; a son, Justin (Amanda Maynard) Matthies, of Forestville; two sisters, Karen Kingsley, of Forestville; and Nancy Vollmer, of Silver Creek. Also surviving is a grandson Phenix C. Matthies. Besides his father he was predeceased by a brother William E. Matthies, III.
Chris donated his body for medical research. A Celebration of Life will be held from 3-8 PM on Saturday, April 13th at the J. Carter Knapp American Legion Post #953, 6 Cedar Street, Forestville. Please wear tie-dye patriotic attire and bring good memories to share.
