Christopher Scott Melanson, son of Jodi Gries (Melanson) and Mark Melanson, was born on December 17, 1987, in Massachusetts.
In 1998, Chris moved to Iowa with his family and attended school at Elk Horn-Kimballton Community School. He later earned his GED in June of 2005. Chris worked as a janitor for Atlantic Community Schools.
As a young man, Chris enjoyed camping and hiking with his family. He loved being outdoors and especially enjoyed working on wind turbines. He also spent many hours playing video games online with friends.
In his spare time, Chris treasured the moments he shared with his children, Kayden and Grayson, goofing and messing around. He loved building Legos, playing Nerf guns, and spending time outside with his boys. Fishing trips and swimming together in the lakes were some of his favorite memories.
Chris passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on Friday, February 20, 2026, at Myrtue Medical Center in Harlan, Iowa, at the age of 38.
He was preceded in death by his father, Mark Melanson.
Left to cherish his memory are his mother, Jodi Gries of Elk Horn; his children, Kayden Melanson and Grayson Melanson; his sister, Emily Melanson of Elk Horn; and his brother, Jason Melanson of Elk Horn.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
