Published by Legacy on Dec. 9, 2025.
Cindy Mathewson, 68, passed away on December 4, 2025, surrounded by family and dear friends. She was born November 29, 1957, in Detroit, Michigan, to Robert and Doreen (Mackin) Aksten.

Cindy will be remembered as a loving, loyal, and wonderful woman, deeply rooted in kindness, quiet strength, and her faith in Jesus. She devoted her life to her family and found special joy in being an Involved grandmother, sharing cherished recipes and traditions.

She found peace in her gardens, nurturing flowers with the same tenderness she showed to others. Cindy also enjoyed watching the Detroit Tigers and took great pride in her work as a barber, where she was deeply loved and respected.

She is survived by her children, Shaun Briggs; Jess & Joel Hayden; Sommer (Greg Kellogg, Hayden); her siblings, Robert, Daryl, and Gary Aksten; her grandchildren, Lexington, Mackinaw, Leland, Ryder, and Jenna; and her best friend of 50 years, Cathy. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Doreen Aksten, and her brother, Randy Aksten.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Compassion International. Messages of comfort may be shared at 1-877-231-7900 or on her guestbook at www.borekjennings.com

A Mother's Garden

When sunlight fades and shadows fall

Your faith still glows, through it all.

Through every storm, your roots held fast,

Your love a garden meant to last.

You taught me grace in tender ways,

To see God's hand in all my days.

Each seed you sowed in heart and home,

Will forever blossom, you're not alone.

For Heaven's fields are never far,

They bloom beyond the morning star,

And life like spring renews again-

We dream, then wake, it never ends.

So please take comfort and live in grace,

In every bloom, I see your face.

In my heart I picture you,

The one who makes my whole world
