Claire B. Gabso

Claire Boucher Gabso was born in Highgate Center, Vermont on December 5, 1925, the daughter of Rene A. Boucher and Imelda (Choquette) Boucher. She graduated from Highgate High School in 1943, and the Bishop DeGoesbriand Hospital School of Nursing in 1946 in Burlington, Vermont.

She was married on February 15, 1947, to John D. Gabso at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Burlington.

Claire was employed as a registered nurse at the Bishop DeGoesbriand Hospital, and the Mary Fletcher Hospital for many years. From 1962 to 1976, she was employed at the Medical Center Hospital (now the University of Vermont Medical Center) in the obstetrical department.

She was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church in Shelburne. Claire was preceded in death by her husband, John D. Gabso in 1998, and her son Gary, in February 2020, as well as her brothers Br. Laurent, Germain, Fr. Maurice, Hertel, Paul, John, and Dr. Bernard Boucher, as well as her sister, Lucille Biever.

Claire is survived by her two sons, Mark and his wife, Anita, of North Smithfield, Rhode Island, Paul and his wife, Patricia, of Savannah, Georgia and daughter-in-law, Heather Gabso of Boca Raton, Florida, six grandchildren: Kristen Gabso Korngold (Jonathan), Andrew Gabso (Sarah), Melissa Gabso Fritch (Seth), Mathew Gabso, USAF (Laura), Jonathan Gabso, and Hilary Gabso.

Claire is also survived by a sister, Yvette Mazuzan (George) of Shelburne, VT and a brother, Gilbert Boucher (Gemma) of Highgate Center; two sisters-in-law: Ellen Boucher, and Madeline Boucher; six great grandchildren, Jack, Kate, and Madeline Korngold, Claire E. and Cameran Gabso, and John and Laila Gabso, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Upon their retirement, Claire and John spent time at their winter home in Lake Worth, Florida, as well as their home in South Burlington. They enjoyed traveling to Europe, and throughout the United States, especially the National Parks. They frequented museums and historical sights wherever they went.

Claire has been a resident of the Wake Robin Community in Shelburne since 2006. She previously was a long-time resident of South Burlington in the Mayfair Park Community. Many fond memories and friendships were formed and treasured.

There will be no visiting hours. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church in Shelburne at a date and time to be determined, with a reception at the church to immediately follow. Burial will be at Resurrection Park Cemetery, South Burlington.
