Stephenson-Nelson Funeral Home - Avon ParkClara Frances Grice, 82, born on October 29, 1942, in Fort Myers, Florida, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, October 25, 2025, in Avon Park, Florida.
A true Southern belle, Clara inspired many with her life of grace, gentleness, and unwavering faith. Kindness and compassion flowed naturally from her. She was always striving to live as Jesus would — with love, patience, and an open heart. For 35 years, she shared her joy of learning at Hopewell and Avon Elementary Schools, where her warmth and encouragement inspired entire generations of children.
Clara found beauty in life’s simple moments — reading, cooking, sewing, photography, and spending time in nature. She had a special gift for making everyone feel welcome and cared for. She loved hosting friends and family with good food and laughter.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Wayne Grice; parents, Earl and Geraldine (Johnson) Penny; son, Steve Grice; and grandson, Kevin Grice.
She is survived by her children, Melissa Sager (Brent) of Avon Park, FL; daughter-in-law, Mary Jo Grice of The Villages, FL; sisters, Melanie Smith (Ricky) and Diane Hawkins, both of Avon Park, FL; grandchildren, Jordan King (Keith) of Chattanooga, TN, and Will Sager of Avon Park, FL; and great-grandchild, Anderson King of Chattanooga, TN.
A celebration of Clara’s life will be held at a later date. Her love, kindness, and gentle spirit will be forever remembered by all who were blessed to know her.
