Waynesville, Clara Messer Parrott, or "Nana" as she was called by her "grandbabies" went on to be with her heavenly father on Monday, July 5, 2021, at the age of 78. Clara was surrounded by her loved ones at Mission Hospital Memorial Campus as she ascended from her earthly life and into a life of glory in heaven.
We can only hope that heaven is a place with an abundance of dogs and cats to take into her home, green fields to plant her beautiful garden, thrift stores to wander through and receive her "therapy sessions" as she called it, and a big kitchen where she can joyfully cook for the masses.
She was the daughter of the late Ed and Zettie Sutton Messer. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Shane and Tommy Messer; brother-in-law-Ned Crawford. Clara was a member of Waynesville Seventh Day Adventist Church.
Clara is survived by her husband of 63 years, Grant Parrott, whom she met while on her break from work at the laundromat in Hazelwood, and whom she has loved faithfully ever since. As Grant recently put in, "she has been married to me 63 years, and I have kept her walking the line ever since." To which she replied, "Now, you don’t want me to knock you upside the head with this pan".
She is also survived by her son, Gregg Parrott, who now will have to find someone new to blame when he misplaces his belongings; four grandkids, including, Alex Parrott (April), Michael Parrott, Seth and Sara Parrott; Clara’s loving daughter-in-law, Michelle; sisters, Arletha Long (Claude), Dorothy Crawford and Sandra Messer; two brothers, Allen and Scott Messer; sister-in-law, Edith Messer; nieces and nephews, Keith Crawford, Vicky Sutton, Carla Steward, Tony Long, Steve Long, Kyle Messer, Sheila Messer and Julie Robinson.
Most importantly, Clara leaves behind a legacy of unconditional love and kindness, that was known by everyone she encountered. May God Rest her soul.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, July 9, 2021, in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Bryan Myers officiating. Entombment will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until service time at the funeral home.
The care of Mrs. Parrott has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville.
