Clarence Albert "Cal" Cowan, 84, loving husband, father, grandpa, and Gpa, of Republic, MO went to meet his Lord & Savior peacefully on November 24, 2025, with his loved ones by his side. Cal was born September 5, 1941, in Gerald, MO to Albert and Viola (Weirich) Cowan. He was a 1959 Washington (MO) High School Graduate. Cal married the love of his life, Janice Margaret Chainey, on April 24, 1964, in Springfield, MO, and they were married for over 61 years. They were blessed with two sons, Roger and Cavin.
Right after high school, Cal enlisted in the United States Airforce in 1959; he was assigned as a Radar Operator for the 746th Aircraft Control & Warning Squadron. He served four years in the military. He played baseball all throughout his life, and was inducted into the Washington (MO) High School Sports Hall of Fame, in October, 2025. In college (1964), he was a member of the very first Southwest Missouri State University's baseball team. He was an avid fisherman, hunter, and outdoorsman. If he wasn't spending time with his family, the woods and the lakes, particularly in Canada, were his favorite places to be. After 20 years and finally retiring from Aramark Uniform, Cal enjoyed 15 years running his mowing business.
Everyone was Cal's good friend. He was always happy to meet you, happy to listen to your stories, thrilled if you would listen to his stories, and always knew a "guy or a gal" that could help you with something. His stories were tall, and his heart was big. His adventurous spirit took him to several different places, always looking for the best spot to find "the big one".
Cal was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Viola, his sister Darlene Becker, his brother William "Bill" Cowan, and his grandson Tharin Cowan. Cal is survived by his wife, Janice; his sister Rose (Frank) Duckett and his brothers Ronald "Ron" (Jane) Cowan and Richard "Rick" (Maunawaun) Cowan; his two sons Roger (Sarah Fruzza) Cowan and Cavin (Anne) Cowan; his five grandchildren Jason (Heather) Cowan; Krystle Cowan-Patton; Caitlin Cowan-Jennings; Coty (Kelsey) Cowan; Camry (Mesha) Cowan; and his nine great-grandchildren, Nathaniel Cowan, Kassie Patton, Madison Patton, Jaden Cowan, Jaxton Cowan-Jennings, Penelope Cowan-Jennings, Thea Cowan, Vada Cowan-Jennings, and Judah Cowan.
Services will be held on December 5, 2025 at First Baptist Church in Battlefield, MO. Visitation will begin at 2:00 PM with a service at 4:00 PM.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to First Baptist Church of Battlefield, 5010 West Byp, Battlefield, MO 65619 in Clarence's memory.
