Clarence Oliver Thomas Jr. was born on January 19, 1956 to Clarence Oliver Thomas Sr. and Marion Thomas. He was the 5th child of 12 children. This large family shared much laughter and love together. Poncho, as he was affectionately known, had a lifelong passion for the New York Giants. Whether it was game day excitement or nostalgic stories of past victories, his dedication to the team was unwavering.
Clarence attended grammar and middle school in Newark and graduated from Central High School of Newark, NJ in June 1974. After high school, he attended Kean University in Union, NJ. At the age of twenty-two, he was hired as Head Chef for the Marriott Hotel at Newark International Airport. That is where he met the love of his life, Gaildene Edna Berry, of East Orange, NJ. They wed on June 23, 1983 and had two children, Michael Berry and Michelle Thomas, from their union. He worked at the United States Postal Office post office in Kearny, NJ for 28 years and retired in 2010.
Clarence was preceded in death by his father Clarence, mother Marion, sisters Sharon, Audrey, and Deborah, and brothers David, Terry, Russell, and Kyle.
Clarence leaves to mourn his wife Gaildene Edna Thomas, children Michael Berry (Keyla) and Michelle Thomas (Bess), grandchildren Zainelle Berry-Waltz and Yanise Berry-Waltz, Kailanny Torres, and Michael Berry Jr., sisters Sheila Thomas and Jacqueline Thomas, brothers Mark Thomas and Bryan Thomas, sisters-in-law Nancy Hopkins, Tamara Thomas, Kia Thomas, Renee Berry, Lethea Berry, and Ursula Berry, a brother-in-law Theodore Berry Jr., and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
