Clarice Cothern, age 88, passed away August 10, 2025, after an extended illness. She was born in Bacon County in May of 1937, to the late Clarence Douglas and Mattie Lucille Abercrombie Douglas. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, James Hubert Cothern and her sister, Mary Lucille Douglas Holt. She was a retired school teacher and was a member of Friendship Baptist Church. She is survived by her two sons, Reese Cothern (Tiffany) of Alma and Bert Cothern (Lori) of Greenwood, SC; one daughter, Beth Judy of Atlantic Beach, FL; two grandchildren, Kristy Jennings (Jeff) and Cassy Tuten (Trey); seven great-grandchildren; three sisters, Linda Gager of St. Augustine, FL, Ruth Kato of Port Orange, FL, and Demaris Hutto (Jack) of Alma; one great-nephew, Gabriel Katzenbach of Alma. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins and several close friends who will cherish her memory. Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 14, 2025, at 11 AM at Friendship Baptist Church with Pastor Jimmy Miles officiating and eulogies given by Beth Judy and Don Cothern. Interment will follow at Friendship Church Cemetery. The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home Wednesday, August 13, 2025, from 6-8 PM. Serving as active pallbearers will be some of Clarice's nephews. Honorary pallbearers will include the Bacon County High School Class of 1955. Crosby Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
