Clariece Thompson passed away peacefully at her home on March 3, 2026. She was born on October 29, 1954, in Bladenboro, North Carolina, to Sanford Walton Johnson and Gussie Lou Cain Johnson. Clariece was the youngest of twelve children in a large and loving family.
In 1973, Clariece moved to Jacksonville, Florida, where she later met the love of her life, Richard Thompson. Together they shared 52 years of marriage and built a life centered on family, loyalty, and caring for those around them.
Clariece was the proud mother of one son, Richard Thompson Jr., whom she loved deeply.
Anyone who knew Clariece knew she had a special way with animals. Her compassion and natural connection with them reflected the kindness and warmth she carried throughout her life. She also found great joy in gardening and working outdoors, where she loved tending to plants and spending time in nature. Clariece was known as an incredible cook who took great pride in preparing meals that brought family and friends together around the table. She was a caring and genuine person who left a lasting impression on the many people who had the privilege of knowing her.
Clariece was preceded in death by her parents, Sanford Walton Johnson (October 1, 1908 - October 14, 1973) and Gussie Lou Cain Johnson (April 20, 1915 - October 29, 2001); and by her siblings Morris Johnson (February 15, 1932 - January 10, 1999), Sanford Moses Johnson (May 16, 1945 - April 14, 1991), Frederick Tracy Johnson (September 10, 1947 - September 27, 2020), and Dannie Walton Johnson (October 9, 1953 - April 4, 1957).
She is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, Richard Thompson; her devoted son, Richard Thompson Jr.; and her beloved siblings Marvin Johnson, Annie Jeanett Baxley, Mildred Haugen, Mattie Lue Cash, Mary Ruth Wilson, James Johnson, and Wilma Lee Box, along with a host of extended family members and friends who will continue to cherish her memory.
Clariece was loved by many and will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all whose lives she touched. Her memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved her.
