Franklin Clark Howell, 92, of Taylors, SC graduated to glory on January 25, 2025. Free now from the progressive dementia which hindered him these last few years, he is skipping around heaven, clapping his hands and delighting in Jesus, His Lord and Savior. He is reunited with those who passed away before him, including his parents, Vivan and Grace Howell, as well as brothers and sisters: Hazel, Don Benito, Sarah, Vinson, Cora, James, Virginia, Fannie, and Jerry. The Howell family's history has deep roots in Taylors, as evidenced by the descendants still living in the area as well as the family-named "Howell" road.
Clark, born October 25, 1932, called Taylors, SC home for his entire life apart from his Air Force service in Japan during the Korean War. Clark married Helen Huff Howell in 1957. They lived in a home built by his brother, Vinson, on land that was part of the original family farm. Here, Clark and Helen raised their children Beth and Stan.
He continually showed his love to his immediate and large extended family, to his fellow church members, and to neighbors met during decades of daily 3-mile walks. His many relationships included those friendships made during a 40-year career as business manager for the Greenville Memorial Hospital system. All the above were often recipients of his smile and prayers.
Clark was saved at an early age and was a lifelong member of the East North Street Baptist Church (now known as Redeemer City Church) which he attended with his family from childhood. As a deacon and volunteer there for decades, he often stood by the door greeting everyone with his warm smile and firm handshake.
He leaves behind Helen Huff Howell, his truly beloved wife of 67 years; his remaining brother, David; daughter, Beth (Matt); son, Stan; his seven grandchildren Daniel (Sol), Timothy (Laura), Jared (Jamie), Maranatha (John), Josiah (Marisa), Jonathan, and Nathan, with a growing number of great-grandchildren. His legacy is a solid walk of faithfulness and service in God's kingdom, loving with a strongly empathetic heart, and intercessory prayers. Even when his memory was slipping, he was always ready to lift up prayers to the throne for a hedge of protection around his family, for the sick, or for traveling mercies for anyone on a trip.
A service to celebrate this well-lived life will be held at Redeemer City Church, 4108 East North Street, Greenville, on Saturday, February 8, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will be prior to the service from 10:00-10:45 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in the Howell Family Cemetery on Woodview Drive, Taylors.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Redeemer City Church, 4108 East North Street, Greenville, South Carolina 29615 or a charity of your choice.
