Clary Phipps Obituary
Born on January 18, 1935, in Rock Hill, SC, Clary was the daughter of the late William and Elizabeth Roddey. Her family's deep roots in Montreat-as the town's original founders-shaped her life, and she spent every summer there before she and her husband, Jimmie, made it their permanent home in the late 1990's. This followed her dedicated 20-year career in the Charlotte Mayor's office. Known fondly for their iconic "round house," Clary was a woman of profound faith and a devoted member of Christ Community Church. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend; but above all, she cherished her large family. Clary's radiant smile and gentle spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Jimmie D. Phipps, Jr.; grandson, Bryant Kibler, Jr.; sister, Bettie Baskin Lobato; and brother, William "Bill" Roddey.
Those left to cherish her memories are her son, Roddey Phipps and wife, Kelly; daughter, Rebecca Blankenship; brother, Bob Roddey (Ann Spears); granddaughters, Elizabeth "Elise" Warren (Brad), Sally Phipps (Nikita), and Caroline Phipps; and great grandchildren, Abby and Tyler Warren, and Phoebe Kibler.
A celebration of life service will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Christ Community Church, PO Box 279, Montreat, NC 28757.
