Claudette Joyce Chavez, born on October 19, 1965, passed away peacefully on January 2, 2026, after a courageous and unwavering ten-year battle with cancer. Claudette faced her journey with remarkable strength, grace, and determination, inspiring all who knew her.
Claudette is survived by her beloved daughter, Dominicka Peña, and son-in-law Jake Peña; her cherished grandsons, Jayden and Mason, who were the light of her life. She also leaves behind her father, George Chavez; mother, Frances Murray; stepmother, Deana Trujillo; her two older sisters, Carla and Cara (Santiago); her step-sisters, Anna Marie (Gustavo) and Michelle (Isaac). She is also survived by her lifelong friend and sister at heart, Miriam, along with numerous nieces and nephews who will forever carry her love with them.
From a young age, Claudette had a deep passion for sports. This passion continued throughout her life, especially as she proudly coached and supported the many sports her daughter participated in. Her dedication, encouragement, and love left a lasting impact on countless young athletes and families.
After graduating from Santa Rosa High School, Claudette moved to Albuquerque to pursue her dreams and build her career. She earned her Bachelor’s degree and went on to work as a Tax Specialist for the State of New Mexico, where she was known for her strong work ethic, integrity, and commitment.
Claudette’s love for her family, her strength in adversity, and her generous spirit touched the lives of many. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
