Claudia A Murray

1940 - 2024

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing Claudia A Murray on May 21st at Virginia Mason Hospital in Seattle. Born June 21, 1940 to Glen and Anna Ramsey in Vancouver Washington, Claudia Ramsey joined seven older sisters and brothers and later welcomed a younger sister. Claudia graduated from Washougal High School in 1958 and married Edwin Murray in that same year. The following year Claudia started her family with her first child who was followed by five additional children over the course of 12 years. The family lived in Washougal, Wa., Reedsport, Ore., Knappa, Ore., and Kalama, Wa., but the last 40 years were spent in Sequim, Washington. As "Mom", Claudia enjoyed sewing clothes, learning to cut hair, and feeding her growing family. Claudia also enjoyed family camping as well as deer and elk hunting with close family friends.

Claudia was a "stay at home" mother until the youngest child was in grade school. It was at this time that she began a career of "taking care of others" that resulted in becoming a 30+ year volunteer Ombudsman in Clallam County Washington. Claudia had many talents and interests, she was a baker, knitter, porcelain doll collector and creator (had her own kiln) and more recently an avid button collector. Claudia learned to sew early and made and mended clothes for the family, which turned into a popular sewing business Custom Fit Alterations. Claudia is described as very compassionate, fearless, humorous, creative, kind, smart with spunk and could be a little persnickety at times.

Preceded in death is Claudia's husband, Ed Murray who passed in 2010 after 52 years in marriage; Claudia's brothers Merlin and Russell Ramsey and four sisters, Lorene Mills, Gwen Weseman, Geraldine Ramsey and Phyllis Romine. Claudia leaves behind a brother David Ramsey (Bettie) and sister Sharon Betcher (Felix) as well as her six children, Hope Murray (Roy); Corey Murray; Melinda Gardner (Doc); Devin Murray (Melissa); Nathan Murray (Sheila) and Kyle Murray. Claudia is survived by 17 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. Claudia also leaves behind sister-in-law, JoAnn Ramsey, Janice Murray and Shirley Hagenson (Steve) and many, many nieces and nephews, who is lovingly known as Auntie C.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday June 22nd from 1pm - 4pm at Holiday Inn Express & Suites, 1441 E Washington Street, Sequim, WA 98382
