Claudia Jean Wempe, 78, of Hagerstown, MD passed away on Thursday, May 18, 2023, at her home.
Born January 30, 1945, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Floyd Wempe and the late Freda Rae (Gossard) Wempe.
Claudia was a graduate of Saint Maria Goretti High School and attended Hagerstown Jr. College.
Before retiring, she worked for the U.S. Postal Service, Department of Health and Human Services, and U.S. FDA. In her spare time, Claudia enjoyed gardening, needle point, walking in the City Park, collecting coins, bird watching, and volunteering at CASA Hotline. Many in Hagerstown would admire her yard and flowers, and would beep and wave when driving by, and would sometimes stop and chat.
Claudia was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Freda.
She is survived by two loving daughters; Amy (Brining) Taylor of Hagerstown and Eva (Brining) Kemper of Palmetto, FL; granddaughter, Luci (Mills) Chapman; grandson, Mason Seward; sister, Denise Osborne; niece, Megan Osborne; and nephew, Chris Wolford.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, May 25, 2023, at 2:00 P.M. at Rest Haven Funeral Home, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave, Hagerstown, with Rev. Mark Mooney officiating.
Friends and family will be received for visitation two hours prior to the service.
