Claudine Penny Scruggs, 100, passed away on April 12, 2024, at Heritage Oaks Memory Care home in Conroe, TX. She was born to James Frank and Hilda Turbville Penny on August 29, 1923, in Smith County, TX. She was the eldest girl in a family of 8 children.
She was a member of State Boulevard Baptist Church and later attended Oak Hills Baptist Church in Meridian.
She lived most of her life in Meridian and in the surrounding area but moved to Texas in 2007 to be near her son and his family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 50 years, Robert E. Scruggs; her brothers Jack Penny, Leon Penny, F.K. Penny and Herman Penny; and sisters Helen Penny Warren and Edna Penny Ishie.
She is survived by her son, Darrell Scruggs; daughter-in-law Charlotte Freeman Scruggs; granddaughter Lindsey Scruggs; grandson Kevin Scruggs, granddaughter-in-law Bari Scruggs, and great grandchild Rebekah Scruggs; sister Katie Penny Robinson and several nieces and nephews.
A Graveside Service will be held on April 27 at 11:00 AM in Meridian at Forest Lawn Cemetery.To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.
