Clay Andrew Gabel, 81, of Amarillo, TX passed away September 15, 2025.
Funeral service will be at 10:00 AM, Saturday, September 20, 2025 at Palo Duro Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Palo Duro Cemetery in Wildorado, TX. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors.
Clay was born October 13, 1943 in Slaton, TX to George Gabel and Doris Billingsley. He graduated from Dimmitt High School. He was a leader and supporter of FFA in Vega, TX. He then attended college in Alpine, TX and finished at WT. Clay loved the Rodeo and won several winning buckles. In the 70’s, Clay bought a ranch in McLean and moved to Wildorado in the 80’s. He had been ranching there ever since where he owned and operated Gabel Cattle Co. and he loved his horse George. He was a member of Palo Duro Baptist Church in Wildorado.
Clay is survived by his life partner of 21 years, Felis Simpkins; sons, Cody Gabel of Dallas, TX and Lee Gabel of Giddings, TX; daughter, Holly Daffron of San Antonio, TX; brother, Kent Gabel of Shallowater, TX; sister, Anna Halencak of Canyon, TX; Felis’ children, Suzanne Hatch (Harold) of Amarillo, TX, P.K. Albin (John) of Amarillo, TX, Ron Simpkins (Rosa) of Roswell, NM, and Brian Simpkins (Teresa) of Amarillo, TX; and grandchildren, Keila and Hope.
