Clay Minshew Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Seymour Funeral Home and Cremation Service - Goldsboro on Oct. 24, 2025.
Our Wonderful Dad, Papa, brother, Uncle, and faithful friend, Clay Minshew, 71, passed away at his home on October 22, 2025. Born in Wayne County on September 16, 1954, he was the son of the late Hubert Minshew and Lucille Sullivan Minshew.
Born and reared with his family on the farm land, Clay cherished his roots and often shared stories of growing up surrounded by his five sisters and four brothers. He carried those values of hard work, loyalty, and love throughout his life.
A dedicated and retired long-distance truck driver, Clay loved his work and the miles he traveled across the country. From coast to coast, he trucked through forty- eight states in his 18-wheeler, logging countless miles and memories along the way. He found beauty in the open road and happiness in every mile he drove.
A true cowboy at heart, he found peace on horseback, spending time with many faithful horses, especially JP, which shared his journey through life. He found peace and joy in caring for them and spending time outdoors.
Most of all, Clay loved his family, especially his three grandsons (Evan, Matthew, and Landon), sharing stories, laughter, and lessons that will last a lifetime.
He will be remembered for his big heart, gentle spirit, and devotion to the people he loved most. True to his giving spirit and fulfilling his lifelong wish to help others learn and grow, he chose to donate his body to the Experience Anatomy Foundation.
Clay is survived by his daughters, Lee M. Gray (Jason), and Dana M. Raper (Kelvin). His grandsons Evan and Landon Gray and Matthew Raper. His siblings Pauline Strickland (Buddy), Eula Faucette, and Hubert Minshew, many nieces and nephews and loving friend, Marie Chance, who shared his laughter and adventures through the years. He was preceded in death by his son, Dallas Ray Minshew.
In addition to his parents, Clay was preceded in death by his siblings, Danny Minshew, Gene Sullivan, Dolly Ellis, Stella Minshew, Walter Minshew, and Barbara Hoover.
Dad, thank you for your endless love, your unselfish heart, and all the ways you cared for us. Though we will miss you dearly, your laughter, wisdom, and the joy you brought into our lives will live on in our hearts forever. We love you always.
The family will hold a Celebration of Life in Clay's honor on October 31,2025 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints at 1:30pm
