Lewis Clayton Cellier "graduated" to Heaven on September 17th, 2025, just shy of 90 years old.
Clayton was born September 29th, 1935 in Henryetta, Oklahoma, to Vivian (Mason) Cellier and Lewis R. Cellier. He graduated from Capitol Hill High School in Oklahoma City in 1953.
He would go on to get his Bachelor of Science Degree from Oklahoma State University in 1957–and his Master's Degree from the University of Central Oklahoma in 1962. He was a varsity letterman at UCO in tennis, as well.
For 50 years, Clayton worked as an educator. Not only was he a teacher in public education, but he would take on roles as a counselor, administrator, and a dedicated coach, including serving as the President of Mid-Del Coaches Association. Clayton was the Vice-President of Elementary School Principals, as well as providing counsel to the North Central Accreditation for Colleges. He was also an Adjunct Professor at the University of Central Oklahoma, serving as a supervisor for numerous student teachers.
After he retired, Clayton coached junior high baseball and volunteered as the high school tennis coach at Christian Heritage Academy. In addition, he dedicated countless hours to Children's Hospital in Oklahoma City and volunteered as a teacher at Westfall Elementary in Choctaw, OK.
As a teacher, he taught every grade, 1st through 12th. He worked his way up to School Administrator in Mid-Del Schools, leading Steed Elementary from 1969 to 1977, Pleasant Hill Elementary from 1978 to 1981, and Parkview Elementary from 1981 to 1983.
And throughout his career, he coached many sports including football, baseball, basketball, gymnastics, track and tennis.
Clayton will be remembered for his outgoing personality, sense of humor, and storytelling. He was also a multi-sport athlete and a devout tennis player for the majority of his life. He would later discover pickleball and would play several times a week. He had a passion for music–playing guitar and singing at church, at schools, and other community events. He also enjoyed drawing, oil painting, and writing hundreds of songs.
Clayton's priorities were God, family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia (Shaw) Cellier, whom he married in July of 1960–two daughters: Sue Ann (spouse Kyle Burger) and Christy (spouse Greg Ellis), three grandchildren: Johnathan McClary (spouse Brooke), Jason Burger (spouse Natalie) and Stacy Joyner (spouse Austin), and five great-grandchildren: Gracyn, Everett,Troy, Blakely and Reece.
