PLAINVILLE – Clayton H. Conard, 81, of Plainville, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 10, 2025, at the Brockton VA Medical Center Hospice, with his wife by his side. He was the beloved husband of Kerry (Landry) Conard.
Born in Trenton, New Jersey, on June 16, 1944, he was the loving son of the late Clayton H. Conard, Sr. and Eileen (Foy) Conard.
Clay grew up in Trenton and proudly served his country during the Vietnam War, enlisting in the United States Army. His first assignment was with the Berlin Brigade, and he was honorably discharged from active duty on November 16, 1964. While serving, he also pursued his education through the University of Maryland, where he earned his college degree.
Over the course of his life, Clay held many positions, but the one that meant the most to him was his work as a Disabled Veterans Outreach Specialist, for the Massachusetts Department of Employment and Training. He was committed to helping fellow veterans find job placement and training opportunities.
Clay was a dedicated member of both the DAV and the VFW.
A man of deep Catholic faith, Clay was a longtime communicant of Saint Martha Parish in Plainville. He was an avid reader of history, enjoyed fishing, and treasured time spent in the company of his family and friends, especially his grandchildren, who were his pride and joy.
In addition to his beloved wife, Kerry, he is survived by his sister-in-law Leslie Landry of Melrose, his stepdaughters: Bethany Lotfi of Plainville, and Betsy Varian and her husband Rink of Sebasco, ME. He leaves his cherished grandchildren: John Hunter Birdsall; Rosalee Varian; Lt. Mohammad Lotfi, USAF; Emmy Lou Varian; Yousef Lotfi; and Selowa Lotfi. He was the dear brother of Beth, Craig, Donna, James, John, Margret and Patty.
He was predeceased by his brothers Scott and Francis Conard and his sister Kathleen Hamilton.
Visitation will be held on Friday, October 24, 2025, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM in the Sperry-McHoul-Pichi Funeral Home, 15 Grove Street, North Attleboro. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Clay's honor by the Reverend Joseph Mozer on Saturday, October 25, 2025, at 10:00 AM in Saint Mary's Church, 130 South Street,Wrentham. Military honors will be accorded following the Mass in recognition of Clay's service. Relatives and friends are most kindly invited to attend.
Interment will be held privately at a later date in Maine.
