The picture is of our Canadian fishing/Portage trip around 1970. One of life's great memories for us all. It wasn't easy, but it was epic. Clay was one of the most wonderful and influential friends I was lucky to have in High School and as a young adult. Even as a young man Clay's moral compass, intelligence and grounded way of living was a guide for us all who knew him. A great gymnast in High School, wonderful skier, and always upbeat and happy. The times we had at his home, Lake Geneva, on the family yacht...how fortunate we all were. Clay's family wealth never affected him in the slightest. When things turned difficult a few years later, He didn't let those experiences change him. Just the opposite. He rose above all of it with dignity and grace. My sincerest heartfelt condolences to the wonderful Spanjer family. Please know that Clay will be missed by all of us who knew him, and he will not be forgotten. I am a better man for knowing him.
