Clayton Elwood Williams, 71, affectionately known as Elwood, passed away on Thursday, July 31, 2025 at Wesley Long Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on June 16, 1954, in Galax, Virginia, to the late Rhudy Foster Williams and Edith Sexton Williams and was the husband to Lisa Marie Williams who survives.
For over 42 years, Elwood made a significant impact in the field of welding and fabrication. He was not only skilled in his trade but also the proud Owner and Operator of Williams Sawmill Repair, where his hard work and commitment were evident in all he did. Elwood’s sense of humor and generous spirit, touched the lives of many throughout his career and life.
Elwood cherished every moment spent with his family and friends, always ready for a laugh and to lend a helping hand. He had a passion for beekeeping, enjoying the simple pleasure of working with his bees. His hobbies included woodworking, where he delighted in building birdhouses, as well as tending to his garden, yard work, and driving his tractor and golf cart. These activities brought him immense joy and were a testament to his hardworking nature.
Elwood is survived by his beloved wife of 32 years, Lisa Marie Blackburn Williams; his sister, Carolyn Young; brothers-in-law, Jerry Blackburn and his wife Wanda, Woody Blackburn, Harold Blackburn and his wife Helen, Randy Blackburn, Timmy Blackburn and Kenny Blackburn; a niece, Tammy Royal; his nephews, Travis Buttrey and his wife Lisa and Michael Buttrey and his wife Rosie. He also leaves behind his cherished canine companion, Sparkle, who brought him much love and happiness. His warmth, humor and giving nature will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00pm on Sunday, August 3, 2025, at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Mark Mitchell. The family will receive friends following the service and other times at the residence.
