Clayton Wright Obituary

Clayton Douglas Wright, Sr., 82, of Covington, died Monday, December 22, 2025 at his residence.

He was born May 2, 1943 in Alleghany County, a son of the late Frank and Roxie Arritt Wright. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Evelyn Faye Snyder Wright; five sisters, Lillian Bogar, Della VanNevelle, Shirley LaDue, Daisy Hepler, and Mattie Thomas; five brothers, Lawrence Wright, Connie Wright, Everette Wright, Charles E. Wright, and Saford W. Wright.

Clayton retired in 2004 from the Covington City Public School system after thirty years of dedicated service in maintenance. Above all, he will be remembered by his loved ones as a devoted family man.

Survivors include his wife, Hazel Stuple Wright of Covington; two sons, Clayton D. Wright, Jr., of Goodview and Andrew C. (Jennifer) Wright of Inwood, WV; three daughters, Charlene (Donald) Barnard of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Stacie (James) McCoy of Covington, and Rebekah (Kenny) Lee of Pearisburg; grandsons, Baron (Connie) Tucker, Freddie Barnard, Koty (Marlee) Wolfe, Ethan (Shayla Wolfe), Levi McCoy, Andrew F.D. Wright, Augusta Lee; granddaughters, Delaney M.T. Wright, Charlotte R. Wright, Abagail Lee, and Paelyn F. McCoy; five great-grandchildren, McKenna R. Wolfe, Dalton L. Wolfe, Maylee C. Wolfe, Kade W. Wolfe, and Emerson R. Wolfe; one sister-in-law, Mary Wright; and numerous nieces and nephews, also surving his dog Buddy.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 27, 2025 at 12:00 PM in the chapel of Arritt Funeral Home with Rev. David Brown officiatng. The family will receive their friends on Friday evening from 6:00 to 7:00 PM at the funeral home.

Active Pallbearers will be Koty Wolfe, Ethan Wolfe, Levi McCoy, Agusta Lee, Andrew F.D. Wright and James McCoy.

Interment will be made in Lonestar Cemetery.
