Cleo David Eye, born on September 29, 1941, in Shirley, Missouri, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 4, 2025, at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was the cherished son of the late Floyd and Opal (Harmon) Eye.
Cleo dedicated 30 years of his life to Chrysler, retiring after a commendable career. His commitment to hard work and his generous spirit defined much of who he was. Known for being a gracious and selfless man, Cleo was independent yet always sought ways to help others. He grew up as one of twelve siblings, often knowing the value of resilience and the importance of family.
His passions were evident in the many things he loved to do. Cleo delighted in cooking, especially his famous fried catfish and BBQ, and was particularly fond of making desserts like coconut cream pie and Oreo cream pie. Gardening brought him joy, as he cultivated both flowers and vegetables. Whether it was repairing something or building something new, Cleo was always busy with projects. He also enjoyed watching classic westerns, Jeopardy, and The Price is Right. Music was another form of passion for him; he held a particular affection for Dolly Parton, who was his all-time favorite singer.
Cleo was a loving father to his daughter, Christina Cooley, and her husband, Jeff. He took great pride in his three grandchildren: Austin Cooley, Brianna Hauser (husband, Dean), and Ashley Brown (husband, Kevin). His legacy continues through his six great-grandchildren: Karmen, Khloe, Finn, Cassidee, Ada, and Crue. Cleo is also survived by his four siblings: Stanley (Donna) Eye, Boyd (Dorris) Eye, Ronnie (Millie) Eye, and Elaine (Marvin) Mercer, along with several nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Cleo was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 57 wonderful years, Shirley (Turnbough) Eye, as well as seven siblings: Norma Ruth Eye, Betty Lee Eye, Geraldine Crocker, Raymond Eye, Austin Eye, Freda Wright, and Delores "Dee" Lewis, in addition to many other dear relatives.
Cleo's proudest accomplishments undoubtedly include his deep love for children. He often sought to bless them, whether with clothes or gifts during the Christmas season, illustrating the impact of kindness he cultivated throughout his life.
Visitation for Cleo will be held at DeClue Funeral Home on Friday, February 7, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM and again on Saturday, February 8, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM.
