Clifford Covington Read, 80, of Gretna, VA died Friday, August 13, 2021 at his home.
He was the husband of Terry Read, they were together for 41 years.
He was born January 8, 1941 in New Jersey, a son of the late William Penn Read and Hope Kraft Read. He was a retired dispatcher for PSEandG, where he worked for 35 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in the Vietnam War.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Rick Baxter and his wife, Melinda of Gretna; two daughters, Susan Thames of Southampton, New Jersey, and Terri Szelc and her husband, Mike of Gretna; two brothers, Bill Read and his wife, Annette, and Ed Read and his wife, Sue, both of New Jersey; one sister, Pat Winterbottom and her husband, Woody of New Jersey; six grandchildren, Stephanie Szelc of California, Joseph Bradway of North Dakota, Collin Szelc of Norfolk, Amber Scott of Missouri, Dalton Thames of New Jersey, and Sara Thames of New Jersey.
Cliff always put his family first. He was hardworking until the end. He loved his beer, cigarettes, cats, cookouts, and hanging out with his family and friends. He enjoyed carpentry work and was a master at it. He also enjoyed the outdoors. Cliff was appreciated and loved his southern friends.
A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
