Clifford Gale Salmon

Clifford Gale Salmon, known to many as Gale, passed away peacefully on October 16, 2025, in Des Moines, Iowa. Born on June 7, 1939, in Coffey, Missouri, Gale lived a life marked by dedication, service, and a deep commitment to those around him.
Gale began his working life on his family's farm and took on various odd jobs around town during his early years. His sense of duty led him to serve in the United States Army, where he was stationed in Virginia Beach for two years. During his military service, he drove amphibious vehicles known as "ducks" and was deployed to Florida during the Cuban Missile Crisis-a pivotal moment in American history.
After completing his military service, Gale settled in Des Moines, Iowa, where he built a long and steady career with Aramark. He worked there for 35 years before retiring. Retirement did not slow him down; he continued to stay active by working part-time at Park Fleur Apartments and mowing lawns throughout the community. His tireless work ethic and willingness to lend a hand made him a familiar and beloved figure to many.
Gale is survived by his devoted wife of 63 years, Kay Salmon; their son Eric and his wife Michelle; their daughter Sonya; grandchildren Caitlin (Michael), Ben (Ashley), Allison (Dakota), Noah, and Brooke; and great-grandson Eoghan Clifford and brother, Gregg Salmon of Albany, MO. He was preceded in death by his parents Wilda and Gerald Salmon and his older brother Gary.
A man of many talents and boundless generosity, Gale was known for crafting with care and creativity. He had a deep love for the outdoors and found joy in sharing that passion with others. Whether through a kind gesture or a shared laugh, he brought happiness wherever he went. His warmth extended beyond family-he was affectionately known as "Papa" to many who were touched by his kindness.
Gale's legacy lives on through the countless lives he enriched with his compassion, humor, and unwavering support. May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him.
Memorial Graveside Services and Inurnment will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 29 in Coffey Cemetery, Coffey, MO under the direction of Roberson Funeral Home, Bethany, MO. Online condolences may be left at www.robersonfuneralhome.com.
