Mr. Clyde E. Heller, 92, of 9090 Anthony Highway, Waynesboro, died at 12:10 A.M., Wednesday, June 24, 2009, in his home. He had been in failing health since October 2008.Born April 5, 1917 in Shippensburg, PA, he was the son of the late John A. and Mary Elizabeth (Crusey) Heller. He spent his early life in the Shippensburg area.Mr. Heller was a graduate of Shippensburg High School with the Class of 1936. He then studied pattern making with the International Correspondence School, Scranton, PA.Mr. Heller served in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II serving in the U.S.He and his wife of 63 years, Mrs. Ruth H. (Otto) Heller, were married June 8, 1946 in Mercersburg, PA. They had lived at their present residence since 1950.Mr. Heller was employed as a pattern maker for Standard Pattern Works, Waynesboro from 1946-1950. Prior to his retirement in 1985, he was employed as a pattern maker for Chambersburg Pattern Works, Chambersburg, PA.Mr. Heller was a member of Evangelical Lutheran Church, where he was a member of the Augsburg Sunday School Class and Joe Stickell American Legion Post #15, both of Waynesboro. He also was a member of Cumberland Valley Antique Engine and Machinery Association, National Rifle Association, Quincy Ox Roast where he served on the Board of Directors and National AARP.Music was a big part of his life. He started by playing clarinet in the high school band and continued on to play in the Shippensburg Municipal Band and the Army Air Corps band. He also played clarinet for Wayne Band in Waynesboro from 1946-1969.He enjoyed wood working, especially making grandfather clocks and furniture, restoring and preserving antique engines, hunting, fishing, and photography. In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Joyce A. Manges of Waynesboro; one son, Gerald E. Heller of Zullinger, PA; five grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and a number of nieces and nephews.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Nancy M. King, who died May 9, 2008; and one sister, Margaret V. Straley.Services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Monday, June 29, 2009, in Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 South Broad Street, Waynesboro, with Chaplain John Winckler officiating.
