Clyde Thomas (Tommy) Hughes of Quitman, died peacefully at home, at the age of 89, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Dallas on February 19, 1932 to W.T. & Avis Hughes. Tommy finished high school and completed some college before becoming a Fireman for the Dallas Fire Department. He married Blanche Sims in 1950, and together they had 3 children, Gene, Linda and James Ellis (Jimbo) Hughes.

In 1978 he married Wanda Lee Madden, they were married until her passing in 2010. Tommy and Wanda had one daughter, Stacy Nicole, and one step-daughter, Vicki Munro. He married Mary Phillips in 2016.

Tommy served as a firefighter in Dallas for 27 years where he saved lives and made many friends. He retired from there in January 1982. He served faithfully in the Masonic Lodge for over 50 years.

After retiring from the Dallas Fire Department, he worked in construction building houses and apartments in the Quitman area. He also owned a service station on Highway 37 for a time and owned concession stand and made crafts to sell in Canton.
Tommy was a very kind and loving husband, father, grandfather and friend.

A Funeral Service for Tommy will be Monday, September 20, at 2:00 PM, at Hubbard Chapel Baptist Church, in Hainseville, Texas. The family will welcome friends one hour prior to the Service, beginning at 1:00 PM. Interment will follow at Concord Cemetery.

He is preceded in death by his parents, W.T. & Avis Hughes, wife, Wanda Hughes, son, Jimbo Hughes, grandson, Tommy Gene Hughes, granddaughter, Makala Gregg, brother W.T. Hughes, sisters, Dorthea, Ann, Doris, and Betty Jo, step-grandson, Michael Bragg, and step-grandson, Dillon Perry.

Tommy is survived by his wife Mary Hughes of Quitman, son Gene Hughes of Quitman, daughter Linda Moore and husband Donald of Maypearl, daughter-in-law Crystal Hughes of Italy, TX, step daughter Vicki Saenz and husband Fernando of Brownsville, daughter Stacy Gregg and husband David of Frisco, step-daughter Michelle Davidson of Quitman and step-son Dennis Phillips and wife Sharon of Hallsville, sister, Billie Rickman, sister-in-law Ruth Hughes, grandchildren, Valarie Slagle and husband Chris of Itasca, Shawn Hughes and Mitzi of Canton, Derrick Butler (Captain #23 of the Dallas Fire Department) and wife Aubrie of Heath, Shane Moore and wife Angie of Grandview, Christy Beets and husband Rance, of Italy, Buddy Hughes (Battalion Chief, Richardson Fire Department) and wife Tarrah of Waxahachie, Chris Hughes and wife Aimee of Allen, Marcus Hughes and wife Renee of Amarillo, Dakota Lara and wife Katy of Hillsboro, Braden, Rylan, Isaac, Rosie, and Micah Gregg of Frisco, step-grandchildren, Christopher Saenz and wife Sarah, Travis Ponce, Amber Kirkpatrick and husband Patrick (Driver, Arlington Fire Department), Rachel Ivy and husband David, Jessica Tyree and husband Christian, and Josh Phillips, 29 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great granddaughter, and several nieces, nephews, and church family and friends.

Serving as Pallbearers are grandsons, Shawn Hughes, Shane Moore, Chris Hughes, Chris Slagle, Buddy Hughes, Marcus Hughes, Patrick Kirkpatrick, and Derrick Butler, and Rance Beets.
