Clyde A. Leri

1926 - 2024

Clyde A. Leri, of Freeport, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2024 peacefully with family. He was a long time resident of Freeport and most recently formed many new friendships at the Haven II apartments of Concordia in Cabot. Clyde was born June 15, 1926, in Freeport, a son of the late Rose (Corio) and Louis Leri. Clyde was married 39 years to his beloved wife Elizabeth Jane "Betty" (Fuhrman) Leri who passed in 1986. Clyde left school early to join the Navy as a signalman during WWII. When the war was over, he had the honor of witnessing the signing of the peace treaty with binoculars from his ship, LSM331, anchored near the USS Missouri. With an honorable discharge in 1946, Clyde learned the masonry trade through the G.I. bill. Clyde was a faithful member of St. Mary, Mother of God Church, Freeport. Clyde is survived by five children, Michael (Sandra) Leri, of Allegheny Township, Patti Shaffer (Dennis Wilson), of Mebane, N.C., Linda Leri (Dr. Keith Baker), of Ft. Myers, Fla., Daniel (Diann) Leri, of State College, and Susan (Miles) Smolic, of Sarver. He is also survived by sister-in-law, Rose (Bob) Leri; 17 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. In addition to his parents and his wife, Clyde was preceded in death by his three brothers, Leno, Henry and Bob Leri; and his three sisters, Emily Martino, Vera Mucci and Eleanor Ponzani. Family and friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday Feb. 26, and from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday Feb. 27, in the REDMOND FUNERAL HOME INC., 524 High St., Freeport. Freeport Fireman's Association will hold a service at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, at St. Mary, Mother of God Church, Freeport, with the Rev. Richard J. Kosisko, JCL officiating. Burial will be held in St. Mary's Cemetery, Freeport.
