Clyde Ronfeldt (87) passed away on January 5, 2024. Clyde was born on December 23, 1936 in Tuthill, South Dakota to Ernest Ronfeldt and Alvina (Braun) Ronfeldt. Clyde was raised in Winner, South Dakota with his brother Lee, and his sisters, Lila, Darlene, and Cecelia.
Clyde served in the United States Air Force from January 1954 to May 1960. While stationed in Germany, he met the love of his life, Lucie Flamang. The two were married on February 12, 1957. In June of that year, Clyde received orders to Ellsworth Air Force Base and in December they relocated to
Rapid City, South Dakota. The couple was blessed with 3 children, John, Carmen, and James.
Clyde worked as an ACW Radar Operator with the 601st Tactical Squadron, during his six years of active duty with the military. After Clyde separated from the USAF, he became an industrial electrician. He worked in the electrical trade and for Civil Service until 1998, when he retired. Clyde then worked for the City of Rapid City in the Parks Department until he suffered a stroke in 2013. One of Clyde's greatest accomplishments was building a home for his family, a three-story modified A-frame, with his brother Lee in 1972.
As a young man, Clyde spent a great deal of time at his Uncle Helmer and Aunt Esther's farm located south of Gregory. He loved his time on the farm spending time with numerous cousins, working, riding horses, and just enjoying the farm life. Later, Clyde continued his love of the outdoors and spent many years hunting, fishing, and enjoying the Black Hills with his children and grandchildren. As his grandchildren grew, Clyde loved to attend their sporting events including softball games, baseball games, and swim meets. He traveled all around the midwest watching his grandkids play in a variety of tournaments in South Dakota, Nebraska, Wyoming and Colorado. He was a devoted member of the Lutheran Church where he served as an Elder and Trustee for a number of years. When Clyde left this world it was with his beloved pastor, David Lindenberg, by his side.
Clyde is survived by his sons: John (Tina) Ronfeldt,
Antigo, Wisconsin and James (Cyndi) Ronfeldt (Rapid City), his daughter, Carmen Mann; 9 grandchildren: Terah (Jeff) Stege, Bethany (Andy) Bauknecht, Trad (Jeana) Ronfeldt, Brooke (Justin) Warner, Mara (Kelly) Kofford, Thayer Ronfeldt, Brandon (Jaime) Alvarez, Conan (Ashley) Alvarez, Demetrius Alvarez; and 19 great-grandchildren.
