Death Notice

Cole L. Romey

1973 - 2024

Cole L Romey, 50, passed away Monday, February 26, 2024, in Rapid City, with his family by his side. Cole was born on June 20, 1973, in Frankfurt, Germany, the son of Randy 'Butch' and Dorothy (Mohler) Romey. He lived in Alaska with his father for a time and helped care for his big sister. Cole graduated from Sturgis Brown High School and enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. During his enlistment he served in Germany and Washington. Upon his discharge he worked as a Fiberoptic splicer and technician throughout his life. After having two children, Brenton and Chelsae, he was married to the love of his life April Ranta. Cole gained another son Devon.
Cole would find humor in literally every situation but, he was also a compassionate and caring man. He had a special place in his heart for animals. Any gathering with Cole left you in tears from either laughing or from being embarrassed. His humor was contagious, and some would often refer to it as a bit "off" but, that was our Cole and we loved him for it. He would light up a room when he walked in and would always have a comment or give that "what the heck look".
Cole lost April, the love of his life, 11 years ago and never recovered from a broken heart. Afterwards, he found happiness by spending time with his family. Cole held so much pride in all three of his children and loved them more than he could have ever expressed. He was so proud of them and the adults they had become. He also loved spoiling his nieces and nephews but insisted he be referred to as Uncle Cole, the favorite Uncle. His parents and siblings were a special part of who Cole was and he was grateful to have them all the way to the end.
To say that Cole was just a 49ers fan would be an understatement. If you wanted to see the serious side of Cole, you just needed to watch a game with him. The 4th of July was one of Cole's favorite holidays. Not only because the family always got together but also because he loved to "blow things up" and boy did he. The show he would put on with his brothers was beyond amazing. He also loved to golf, fish and play poker
The loss of our son, brother, uncle, father and friend to many, has come too early and our pain now is unbearable. But it gives us all comfort knowing he is joining the love of his life, April. They are now once again in each other's arms and Cole is finally at peace.
Cole is survived by his children, Brenton Romey, Chelsae Noble (Cayden) and Devon Romey (Moriah); his parents, Randy "Butch" and Karen Romey and Dorothy Mohler; his siblings, Cheka (Trent) Love, Troy Nayman (Tonya), Tim Nayman (Angel), Cody Romey (Michi), Seth McBride and Drew Lamoureux; his nieces and nephews, Ashley Albrecht (Kevin), Kyle Maciewjewski, Jordan Hackler (Carter), Sidney Champion (Brian), Jace Nayman, Jessa Nayman, Camden Nayman, Desirae Romey,
He is preceded in death by his wife April Romey.
A memorial Service will be held at 3:30 pm Friday, March 1, 2024, at Kirk Funeral Home in Rapid City.
