Coleman Deweese Smith, Junior, 82, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 20th surrounded by his daughters, his best friends, and his beloved wife.
Coleman was born on February 25, 1941 to Irene & Coleman Smith, in Murray, Kentucky. They later moved to Jackson, South Carolina where Coleman graduated from Jackson High School in 1959. He then worked his way through the co-op program at Georgia Tech while studying civil engineering. He graduated in 1964.
In 1977, Coleman met Susan Pheny, and they married in 1978. They have five daughters, Kelly, Joely, Janice, Amanda, and Megan. In 1981, on a leap of faith, he started Addison Fabricators, Inc.. Since that day, Coleman has given all glory to the Lord. He prayed to God to guide him and give him discernment. The Lord never failed, and Coleman praised His name until the end.
Coleman was a member of First Baptist Church where he taught Sunday School for many years.
He did not take part in any typical leisure activities like golf or tennis; he preferred to be surrounded by his family, his friends, and God's creation. His favorite activity was gallivanting – He'd hop in a car, take a backroad, and gallivant his way to discover rocks that had yet to be turned over.
Coleman leaves behind his beloved wife, Susan, his five daughters, Kelly Corta, Joely Hampton (Barry), Janice Vest (David), Amanda Fowler (Les) and Megan Smith, and five grandchildren, Alston Hampton, Amaia Corta, Sophia Hampton, Lucas Corta and Feeney Marie Fowler.
Pallbearers are Don Daniel, Les Fowler, Alston Hampton, Barry Hampton, Connor Pheny, Judson Pheny, and David Vest. Honorary pallbearers are Paul Bryant, Will Crouch, Paul Guire, William "Bunny" Hubbard, Allen Israel, Mike Steed, and Robert Wright.
The family would like to thank Coleman's physicians, Dr. Bebo Patton & Dr. Timothy Weirich, and caregivers, Johnny Franklin & DiAnna Holm, for their excellent care and kindness.
Services will be held on Wednesday, November 22nd at First Baptist Church of Hartselle, Alabama. The visitation will be at 11:00, and the funeral at noon. The burial will take place at Roselawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends at their home immediately following the burial.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that charitable donations be made to International Missions Association (IMA), 9255 McDonald Road, Citronelle, Alabama 36522.
"Fear not, for I am with you;
Be not dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you,
Yes, I will help you,
I will uphold you with My righteous right hand."
Isaiah 41:10
