Colleen Violet (Liss) Kopczynski, 88, of Peru, passed away on her wedding anniversary, Thursday, June 6, 2024 at the LaSalle County Nursing Home in Ottawa.
Visitation will be 9-11:00 AM Friday, June 14, 2024 at the Mueller Funeral Home, Peru followed by a memorial service at 11:00 AM with Rev. J.A. Small of St. Valentine's Church, Peru officiating. Burial for both Chester and Colleen Kopczynski will follow in St. Valentine's Cemetery, Spring Valley with full military rites conducted for Mr. Kopczynski, a veteran of the U.S. Army, by the Peru Veterans Memorial Group.
Mrs. Kopczynski was born April 22, 1936 in Peru to Edward and Mary (Kwiecinski) Liss. She married Chester Francis "Chet" Kopczynski on June 6, 1959 at St. Valentine's Church, Peru.
Mrs. Kopczynski was a graduate of St. Mary's Nursing School in Bloomington and worked as a registered nurse. She began her career delivering babies in the OBGYN Department at Illinois Valley Community Hospital in Peru. She went on to work as a nurse at Sunstrand and then worked for 30 years as a nurse for Dr. Won Kim in Peru. Mrs. Kopczynski loved sewing, making a lot of her own clothes. She also enjoyed crafting and shopping. She especially loved music and dancing along with her husband, Chet who was as a drummer in the Johnnie Kaye Orchestra.
Survivors include her son, Chris (Daniel) Kopczysnki of Richmond, VA; her daughter, Kelly Kopczynski of Peru; one grandson, Brandon (Jessica) Kopczynski of Peru; one great-grandson, Isaac Mora-Nieto; two sisters-in-law, Carol Liss of Peru and Ann "Dolly" Krolak of Everett, WA; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, Edward Liss Sr.; her mother, Mary Benedict; her step-father, Walter Benedict; her husband, Chester on August 6, 2007; and her brother, Edward Liss Jr.
