Larry Paul Gindlesperger, 84, of Windber, Pennsylvania, was called home on November 26, 2025, surrounded by his three loving children.

Larry was born and raised in Windber, PA. He chose to serve his country by joining the United States Air Force in 1961. His distinguished military career was highlighted by his service as a B-52 and FB-111 Master Navigator, and as the Performance Officer for the legendary SR-71 Blackbird. He held tours as Base Commander at both Pease Air Force Base in New Hampshire and Comiso Air Station in Sicily, retiring honorably as a Colonel in 1991.

Upon his retirement, Larry embraced a completely different path, dedicating himself to his passion as an artist blacksmith. The anvil he had faithfully carried with him throughout his active duty, which he affectionately called "just a hobby," became his second, fulfilling career as owner of Eagle and Anvil Forge.

Larry met his future wife, Marjorie Gail Wright, while home on leave in Pennsylvania. They were married on July 6, 1963, at the West Charleston Church of the Brethren, beginning a profound and lifelong love story that was officiated by her own father. Larry and Marge raised three children, moving their family multiple times but always ensuring each relocation was a "memorable adventure." Their cherished family summer vacations involved camping, hiking, visiting America's National Parks, and enjoying every rollercoaster they could find, often including Sally and Bill Miller.

Larry’s life was guided by a strong focus on faith, family, and freedom. He will also be fondly remembered for his ever-present and good-natured dad jokes.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore and Myra Gindlesperger, and his beloved wife, Marge.

He is survived by his children: Sheryl Aimanovich-Davis (Tom), Krista Fastenau (Dan Franck), and Eric Gindlesperger (Sarah Weinberg). He is also survived by his four grandchildren—Shawn, Natasha, Jessika, and Chase—and his great-grandson, Keiran. In addition, he is survived by his siblings Norman, Sally and Ronald.

Larry flew high above the earth, now he’s ready to go higher. He will be dearly missed.

A Graveside Service will be held at the Jacksonville National Cemetery, Jacksonville, Florida on Tuesday, December 2, 2025 at 1:00pm.
