To the Family of Commander Scott Byrd,

Please accept my deepest and most heartfelt condolences on the passing of Scott. I had the honor of meeting him in July of 2025 while we were both attending the Senior Management Institute for Police (SMIP), and in a short time he made an extraordinary impact on my life.

Scott was an outstanding human being kind, gentle, compassionate, and grounded in a sense of purpose that was immediately evident to anyone who spent even a moment with him. We ran together in the early mornings, and we stood side by side during our leadership team-building sessions, pushing one another, encouraging one another, and supporting each other through every challenge. His presence was truly angelic, and his heart for service was unmistakable.

What stood out most was how deeply he loved you his wife and children. He spoke of you constantly, with pride, admiration, and a tenderness that revealed just how central you were to his life. His devotion to his family was as inspiring as the way he carried himself as a leader.

I will never forget Scott, nor the impact he had on me. The lessons he shared, the example he set, and the spirit he carried will remain with me always. Please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers during this unimaginable time. I hope you find comfort in the love he gave so freely and in the legacy he leaves behind.

With deepest sympathy and respect,

Lt. Andre Poston
