Swanton – Conan Alan Trombly, affectionately known as 'Doc', a longtime area resident, passed away Tuesday, October 29, 2024, at home surrounded by his loving family.
Born on November 2, 1931, in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, he was the son of the late Keith A. and Helene (Mosegaard) Trombly and was 3 days shy of his 93rd birthday.
On March 2, 1957, in Dalton, Massachusetts, Conan married Priscilla Aucelia Barton, who survives him.
He was educated in Massachusetts and went on to serve his country in the United States Air Force receiving his Honorable Discharge as Staff Sergeant in 1954. After his discharge from the Air Force, he became a heavy equipment operator; being a longtime member of the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 98. In 1960, Conan brought his wife and baby daughter to Vermont while working on the Atlas Missile sites and they decided to make it their permanent home. After retirement from the construction industry, he was Maintenance Manager for the Four Winds Senior Housing Complex in St. Albans for several years.
Conan was a fun-loving man who made everyone he met feel at ease. He was precise in all tasks he undertook. He was quick-witted and thoughtful, constantly looking for better ways to accomplish things in order to make life easier. He enjoyed nature, especially birds (which he fed seed and suet to daily) and all kinds of animals. When it was the craze, he was a member of the local CB radio club. Besides his family, his greatest love was to 'putter' in his workshop.
In addition to his wife of 67 years, he is survived by his daughter, Bonnie Skarka and her husband, Kenneth of Swanton, as well as two dear grandchildren, Jennifer Breeden Montague (Samuel) and Joshua Breeden (Pamela), his sister, Lorraine Neissel, sisters-in-law Joan (Barton) Sprinkle, and Cindy (Barton) Edwards (Robert), and foster daughter-in-law Natalie Cantell as well as 9 great-grandchildren, many foster and step-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Conan was predeceased by his brothers-in-law Edmund Neissel and Charles Sprinkle and foster son, Christopher Cantell.
His family would like to especially thank VNA-Hospice staff for their care and support given to Conan and to them during his last few weeks. The kindness of caring neighbors and friends is also appreciated.
A graveside funeral service will be held on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, at 2:00 PM at the Sheldon Village Cemetery, Sheldon Woods Road with Pastor Dan Frost officiating. Military honors for the Korean War veteran will follow.
Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the Franklin County Animal Rescue, 30 Sunset Meadow, St. Albans, Vermont 05478.
Honored to be serving the family of Conan Trombly is Rett Heald of the Heald Funeral Home, where messages of condolence are welcome at www.healdfuneralhome.com.
