Connie Doyle Obituary

Connie Richards Doyle, age 74, passed away peacefully on May 11, 2023, at her home in Heflin, Alabama, after a short battle with pancreatic cancer. Connie, or Gran as she was affectionately called by her grandchildren, was known for her generous spirit, quick wit, and community involvement. She was preceded in death by her parents, Otis and Jean Richards, and her brothers, Don and Michael Richards. She is survived by her children: Jennifer (Mike) Crosby, Emily (Kevin) Knarr, and Jeffery H. Doyle. Other survivors include her grandchildren: Ryan Crosby, Regan Crosby, Cole Knarr, and Campbell Knarr. A proud graduate of Jacksonville State University, Connie never forgot her early collegiate years at Auburn University. She never wavered in her connection with her War Eagle roots, especially during football season in the fall. Aside from being a proud mother and grandmother, she was employed for twenty-two years in Social Services for the Department of Human Resources; her first years were spent as a social worker in Anniston and specifically in Heflin with Medicaid in her final years. Those who knew her well admired her for her tender heartedness, her courage to speak the truth, and her empathy for the underdog, traits so invaluable in rearing her children and in her professional life. She was deeply rooted in Heflin as a prominent member of the Episcopal Church of the Messiah where she served on the Vestry and was greatly appreciated for her culinary skills during church brunches, especially during the annual Thanksgiving food sales. In retirement, she served on the Board of the Department of Human Resources in Cleburne County. In short, she was an asset to the community, and she will be missed. A memorial service will be held at the Episcopal Church of the Messiah on Sunday, May 28th at 1:00PM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Episcopal Church of the Messiah, PO Box 596, Heflin, Al 36264.
