Chillicothe Connie Sue Cisco Meyer, 77, of
Chillicothe, Ohio, passed from this world Wednesday evening, November 19, 2025, at Grant Hospital following an auto accident.
Connie was born June 24, 1948, in
Waverly, Ohio, the oldest of three children. She was active in 4-H and graduated from Waverly High School in 1966. After earning a degree from Fairview School of Nursing, she married Paul P. Meyer, to whom she was married for 50 years. They lived on Caldwell Street in Chillicothe for most of those years, their home being a hub for family and neighborhood gatherings.
Connie was a caregiver at heart and made everyone feel loved. She worked as a registered nurse at St. Francis Hospital when she and "Paul P." lived in Escanaba, Michigan; at Lane Memorial Hospital when they moved to Zachary, Louisiana; and at Hopewell Health Centers when they returned to Chillicothe. When Paul became seriously ill, she provided 'round the clock care. As her mother Mary Alice was getting older, she visited regularly and helped with her care. When her stepson Mike became ill, she stepped in to help as everyone knew she would.
Family meant everything to Connie. She never missed her grandchildren's softball games, choir concerts, graduations, and weddings. She was always up for meeting out for lunch and taking her grandchildren on shopping trips. Although she and Paul traveled a lot, she loved being home the most and having friends and family over to share a meal. She always made everyone feel welcome. She hosted weekly dinners for friends and holiday gatherings for family, often blending friends and family into large block parties. As her granddaughter Leah said, "She was the heartbeat of her neighborhood, hosting Sunday meals weekly, getting everyone together, and forming family-like bonds with her neighbors and friends."
Preserving history was at the core of everything Connie did. She restored their 1849 Greek Revival home, opening it up for home and garden tours. She researched the family's history back several hundred years and carefully documented it. She learned to cross-stitch, weave baskets, and can foods, all while using historical tools. She also grew heirloom tomatoes and tried pioneer recipes so they wouldn't be forgotten.
Volunteering and service to the community were some of Connie's proudest achievements. She was an active member and past Regent of the Nathaniel Massie Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She tirelessly placed wreaths on veterans' graves for Wreaths Across America every holiday season, no matter the weather. She served on the Pump House Board of Directors, helping to establish the Pump House Art Gallery. She was a member of the Chillicothe Restoration Foundation, served as a Chillicothe City Council member for 10 years, and partnered with Sons of the American Revolution to establish Liberty Camp for children. Connie donated blood to the American Red Cross for 25 years. She ultimately became an organ donor.
Connie is survived by her brother Steve (Jeanne) Cisco, sister Kelly Cisco Tackett, and special niece Traci Clark, all of Waverly; godson Spencer Steele of Saratoga Springs, NY; stepchildren Jeff (Ginny) Meyer of Houston, Kris (Brad) Baker of Chillicothe, and Lisa (Brett) Meyer of Columbus; grandchildren Mike (Candice) Meyer and Dave Meyer of Peyton, Colorado, Euan Baker of Columbus, Leah (Andrew) Baker Leachman of New Albany, Lily Meyer of Houston, and Leila Meyer of Columbus; greatgrandchildren Noah Capparello-Meyer of Wendell, North Carolina, Mikie Paul Meyer of Peyton, Colorado, and Aidan Barajas of Houston; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, James H. Cisco and Mary Alice Eich Cisco, husband Paul P. Meyer, stepson Mike Meyer, and granddaughter Katie Meyer.
As Connie's grandson Mike said, "We will miss her dearly. We carry her spirit in the way we treat one another-with patience, compassion, and an open heart. Grandma Connie may no longer walk beside us, but she will always be part of us."
While there will be no formal service according to Connie's wishes, family and friends are invited to a Celebration of Life to honor her memory, which will be held on December 7, 2025, at 2:00 pm at the First Presbyterian Church of Chillicothe on Mead Drive. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Wreaths Across America, c/o Nathaniel Massie DAR, P.O. Box 14, Chillicothe OH 45601.
